A native of Shunde, Guangdong. He was brought to Hong Kong by his family after his birth in Guangzhou. He learned painting from Hu Yuji, pupil of Zhao Shao'ang, and is known to be an exponent of the Lingnan School of painting. While his early paintings showed no specific style or subject, his later works were mainly landscapes. In 1969, he founded the Breeze Art Institute. During the 1960s and 70s, he was an active member of the Hong Kong China Art Association and Chinese Contemporary Art Research Society. At age 21, he held his first solo exhibition in City Hall and since then, his works have frequently been shown in USA, Asia and Europe. In 1984, he moved to Canada where he continues to paint and teach.
